Russell Synan was a fixture of Pocahontas and a lifelong resident of Peel Chestnut Mountain. He was born at his homeplace on Peel Chestnut Mountain and lived there till his passing on July 26, 2020, at the age of 92.
Russell and his wife Pat hosted two of the largest activities in the area – The Peel Chestnut Mountain Pumpkin Festival and the Peel Chestnut Mountain July 4th Celebration.
For over 18 years, Russell and Pat have opened their home to 100s, even 1000s, of friends who come to enjoy the good food, good music, vendors, games, hayrides, pumpkins, fireworks, apple butter, and those world-famous fried bologna sandwiches.
But most of all they come to enjoy the fellowship and the friendship of Russell and Pat Synan at the Synan Homeplace.
Memories of the Synan Homeplace….
I just wanted to let you all know that I got real hungry when I started reading about the bologna sandwiches. Wish I had one to eat right now. Hope all is well and the only comment I wanted to make about the homeplace was to say that my favorite uncle lives there and I wish I was with him right now and of course his great wife Pat. You see the most fun I have ever had in life was the fun I had as a child working and playing on top of Peel Chestnut Mountain at the Synan homeplace!!!
